Day 8 in the life of: A real live Fashion Designer-cum-blogger.

I love vintage jewelry. I recently got this amazing necklace I'm wearing today off e-bay. I had to have it, so I paid the buy now price of $24.99. Well worth it! The online pictures did not do it justice, I mean it looked cool and all, but when I laid my eyes on the actual thing...WOW! Once I opened up the package, I realized it was so much prettier in person and I could not wait to wear it. The artist who designed this hand-made piece might have been inspired by some sort of hammered Moroccan chandelier. Another love of mine is this African-esque bracelet I have on. I believe it is made from horn and bone...I haggled with the vendor at the Rose Bowl and ended up only paying $8 for it. I've had it for about 5 years now, and I always find an opportunity to mix it into my wardrobe. Great investment piece. I love getting a good price for vintage jewelry because it always turns out to be a worthy investment. The quality is superb and you have the piece of mind that it will last for years to come. Even better, its a near guarantee that no one else in the office will have the same thing!

Day 7 in the life of: A real live Fashion Designer-cum-blogger.

Just in case you haven't noticed yet, I'm obsessed with my throwback to the 1980's white wayfarer Ray-Ban shades. I find that they go with almost everything and I have been wearing them pretty much everyday since I got them back in November. In my opinion, this wicked white shade is perfect all-year-round! Not a bad buy for $139! The other shape that Ray-Ban makes that I am also loving is the "clubmaster". I can't decide if I want the blue or the gold pair. But then again...my white ones go with everything....so the clubmaster's can wait! :)
Check out more wicked awesome Ray-Ban's at: www.ray-ban.com
Miss Social Experiment's Outfit for today: Sunglasses by Ray-Ban, Nordstrom.com. Necklace....I can't remember what the store was called but I got it while laid-over at the Denver Airport! Jacket, Twist front Tee and Pants all Trina Turk 6/30/2008 collection. Flats: Steve Madden, Zappos.com.

Day 6 in the life of: A real live Fashion Designer-cum-blogger.

MiH: Made in Heaven...I concur!
One of the reasons I wanted to do this experiment is to show that one can put a chic outfit together on a budget. Working in the fashion industry is very taxing on the mind, body, soul and wallet! I simply can not afford to splurge on designer duds season after season. Every so often I do spoil myself by buying a key item that is more expensive than I would normally spend. For example: my LOON pants by MiH (as seen in this photo) are the most expensive, and most favorite jeans in my dresser. Full price they can be upwards of $200, but I lucked out and got them on sale at Barney's New York at the Americana in Glendale, CA for about $120. I have worn this pair of Jean so many times, that I would have felt o.k. about paying full price for them. They are extremely flattering with the long flared leg opening and the rise comfortably hits just above my belly button. This is a "newer" high waisted and much welcomed fit in comparison to the down-to-there, butt-crack-rising silhouettes that most of us gals have become accustomed to in the past few years. One exciting little tid-bit: when I was in New York for Coterie this past February, I was lucky enough to meet the Designer, Chloe Lonsdale, for MiH denim when I stopped in to check out their booth. She was a super sweet British bird and was really excited to hear how much I loved my Loon pants. She was also impressed that I knew them by name! Check out more MiH denim here: www.madeinheaven.co.uk

Alina Pizzano and Miss Social Experiment.
It was an extra special day on Friday because I had a wardrobe change! Haha. Well, that's not why the day was so special really. Actually, Friday evening was extra special because a very dear friend and former co-worker of mine, Alina Pizzano, had a Grand Opening party for her 2nd couture bridal boutique. The space is lovely! She recently moved locations in Pasadena, CA from 24 South Morengo Avenue just around the corner to 235 East Colorado Boulevard. The space is three times as big as the old one, and it really looks fantastic. Alina Pizzano and her husband Jameel Haiat are the epitome of dynamicly creative power couples! She is a designer and He a sculptor, together they work on interior design projects which include bulid-outs and remodels as well as furniture design! Wow, talk about an inspiration. I'm so proud!
You can check out her website at http://www.alinapizzano.com/ and his at http://www.jameelhaiat.com/

Part 1: Belated Day 3 in the life of: A real live Fashion Designer-cum-blogger.

I took the day off from work on friday because sometimes I just really need a break from my crazy busy work schedule. Besides, I had some errands to run downtown, and I still wanted to look chic....let me share my "running around town" outfit with you. After my mini photo session in front of a downtown fountain...I went to de-stress with a thai massage over at Barai on Hyperion. It was amazing, I love that massage parlor! I followed my blissful massage experience with a fantastic Ahi Tuna dinner at Dusty's on Sunset. As I sat there eating the most amazing nutty bread with butter and strawberry jam, I thought to myself.... I need a laptop, I could be blogging right now! Haha. So silly.

Miss Socail Experiment's Outfit #1 for friday 6/12/09: Hat by Goorin, purchased in Healdsburg, CA. Spectacles: Anne et Valentin, Eye Gotcha in San Francisco, CA. Neclace by Noir. Tee-shirt, Forever 21, Cardigan and Trousers, Trina Turk. Belt: H&M. Shoes: Vince Camuto, Shoes.com.

Day 2 in the life of: A real live Fashion Designer-cum-blogger.

Today I'm running about 3 hours behind on sleep, and feeling ever so slightly hung-over, but that hasn't stopped me from being totally excited to share my super duper cute outfit with you:)!! Not so fast... before delving into the details of my ensemble, I'll fill you in on my morning activities. Met with my pattern maker this morning just to check in. She has been working like a dog the past few days to get all our changes done for LA Market (which as some of you know started today). After a much needed bit of chit chat, I had to change gears a little to review the beginnings of spring 2010 fabric and print with the boss lady. That was exciting. We are going to create a perfectly pretty botanical explosion followed by psychedelia on the open seas! I can't wait to get started on those babies. And now here I am blogging away when I should be looking for some resort inspiration so I can get to designing that first! Alas... the little elves have been on strike for some time, so its up to me to get cracking. Its going to be hard for me to stay focused today because I'm very excited about tonight's event. I will be judging a student fashion show at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. I'm expecting the venue to take my breath away as it has always been a dream of mine to go and walk through those doors. Lets hope the student work does not spoil my experience. If any of you have been to or judged a student show, you know there can be some rather frightening moments on the catwalk. I'll keep you posted on that one.

A day in the life of: A real live Fashion Designer-cum-blogger.

I’d like to conduct a science experiment. Chronicle my wardrobe, thoughts, delights, frustrations, ups, downs, and all-arounds as they relate to my life as a Fashion Designer for 30 days. Then what? …see what happens I suppose. Not that I think its going to change me in some earth shaking way, but maybe it will keep me occupied for a month. Okay, maybe not quite a science experiment, but rather, a Social experiment. A day in the life of a real live fashion designer-cum-blogger. Sounds like maybe I won’t hate it. Today I was inspired by several other bloggers I have come to know as of late to dive into the ridiculous world of “blog”. All in order to express my thoughts as they relate to my fashion designer existence, as if to claim I have something original to contribute to society. If, by some freak accident, someone out there finds what I’m doing interesting or enjoys reading what I have to say, then perhaps I can call this social experiment a success. Ahhh! Success in the glamorous world of fashion blogging. Ha! That will be the day. More like why the hell would anyone give a flying fuck what I think, but I’m going to do it anyway. I think I’ll call myself “miss social experiment”. Has a nice ring to it.
